Illustriously creative: Sir John Hegarty
The House of Illustration is a small but perfectly formed gallery and event space in the heart of creative Kings Cross, next to Central Saint Martins. What a vibrant, warm space! Whilst waiting for a talk to begin, we were wowed by Mac Conner's incredible work. Described as the original Mad Men style illustrator, his stunning compositions and astute observations of American life in the 1950s was a real treat.
The main event was hearing Sir John Hegarty speak on creativity, based on his book ‘There are no rules’. Hegarty is an icon of modern day advertising and knows a thing or two about creativity. His manner was witty, lively, engaging, and warm as he shared his insights and thoughts on how to sustain a long career within the creative industries. He touched on the topics of culture, storytelling, the power of ideas, the value of craft, and the education system. Ultimately, he encouraged us all to go forth with passion, immersion, excitement and energy in all the work that we do. We certainly left feeling inspired and ready to create!
A fantastic talk in a great setting. Thanks House of Illustration – we'll definitely be back.
